THINGS THAT WILL MAKE YOU BETTER IN LIFE AND IN BASKETBALL
1. Learn & Listen
The best players are the best listeners
Look your parents/coach in the eye when speaking to them and tell the truth
Who are you listening to? Surround yourself with good people
2. Pay Attention
If you are not ready, then you are not attentive
Only you can choose to listen and pay attention
Learn to play basketball in a stance, never standing straight up
Learn to do things that are hard, make the use of your talents
3. Eliminate Distractions
Take care of all your off the court problems
When you step on the court, all you should have on your mind is basketball
4. Work Hard
Everyone says they work hard, but do not confuse activity for work
Learn to work hard at the speed you play – push yourself!
Break a record you set yesterday
IS TWO BETTER THAN ONE?
TWO IS ONLY BETTER THAN ONE IF TWO ACT AS ONE!
You do not become better alone – you will need someone to help you along the way
Treat people with respect – make someone want to coach you
Ask yourself: Would I want to coach myself? Look yourself in the eye and tell the truth
Say ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’ – Get people to want to be on your team
How do you walk out to practice? Are you enthusiastic or will your coach need to get you excited?
A college coach looks to see if a player can share and make others around him better
Look at yourself and ask: What kind of teammate am I?
Do you shoot your shot? Or do you shoot OUR shot? (Are you selfish?)
To develop to be a good person and a good player you need someone to believe in you because you will not always believe in yourself
Be a person who somebody: wants to coach, play with, be a part of something bigger then themselves, can make the right choices to be a better player
If you have the courage, it will work – just be strong enough to make the right decisions
Choice not chance determines your destiny – you are in control of your life!
You are not put on this earth to be alone –Basketball is the epitome of what society should be doing: working together
Never underestimate the impact you can have on anything – you have an effect on people you do not even know
In the end, you must follow your heart and do what makes you happy
