At what level do you play or coach basketball?
JV
About Me:
Was borin in Khabarovsk, Russia. Lived there with my grandmother untill I was 11, then my mom came and got me and my brother and we moved to Germany. Live on an Army Base and went to a DoD American school on post. Didn't know any english at all, had to learn all by watching tv or picking it up from listening in school or being around the kids. Was very very hard to learn at first, no one else spoke Russian at school so I had lots of trouble with language, school, and friends. Did not know anything about basketball back then. A year later i was fluent in English, could speak, write and read with no problems. Started hanging out with kids from school and went to the basketball court from time to time, started to get interested with the game. Played on a Youth sports team, wasn't very good or gifted with talent for basketball but that didn't stop me from falling in love with the game. Started going to the court more often and shooting around and playing more and more. Then we moved to Ft.Leavenworth, KS and I played basketball everyday of the summer out on the court behind my house. Didn't know anybody there so the only thing I had to do was play basketball. After the summer ended it was time for me to go to school, I was goin to 9th grade. Played basketball at the school, because I did not attend any camps or play for any AAU teams I lacked confidence and experience with the game. Never had the money, opportunity, or chance to do any extracurricular basketball activities. Parents were never interested in my personal life or my love for basketball so I was always on my own, playing, practicing, and motivating myself to play. No one told me to keep playing or to not quit eventhough I was behind on talent, confidence and experience. I kept playing and playing, during my 9th grade year our team did not win any games, that did not disappoint me or made me want to stop playying. I knew that if I kept playing and practicing hard that I would get better and better even if it took a long time and if it was going to happen little by little. Made the sophomore team at Leavenworth High School where basketball is a big tradition. Did not get any playing time during the season due to the lack of confidence and experience in my game, never had problems in my physical talent, being in good shape, and condition. Was always the first one back on defense, up and down the court on scuicides, and never complained about anything. If the coach said do it, I do it, If coach yelled at me and told me to do something differently I would say "Yes Sir" and nothing else. Eventhough I did not receive any play time during the season, it did not put me down on myself, it made me want to go out harder during practice and practice more and more on my own time. The school year came to an end and it was summer time, everyone from the team moved up to JV or Varsity, went to expesive camps and played for AAU teams. I did not have any money to and could not get my parents interested in my life with basketball to get me to go somewhere to play and to get better. Neither my step dad or my mom ever came to my basketball games. The summer ended and it was time for junior year, I lived a little far from school and never had a ride to attend any of the offseason conditionings at the school or to be able to work out with the team. Did not receive alot of attention from the head coach of the basketball team. I practiced and worked out on my own at home, did all I could, did pushups, lifted books as weights and played hoops behind the house. When my junior basketball season came I went to the tryouts and hoped to make the team, get better and elevate my game. This time I did not make the team and the coach did not want to tell me why. I figured it was because I did not have enough experience or confidence to play good JV or Varsity basketball at that school because the competition level was very high. This year Im at a new school and im ready to try again.
